This presentation displays the importance of gun type and charge sizes selection to prevent the sanding problem in the giant North of Monagas field in Venezuela. Despite high reservoir pressures, several wells have experienced severe sanding problems in the downhole tubulars and the erosion of surface equipment. To mitigate this problem the use Big Hole Charge Gun strategy was applied in the field.
