The invention relates to an alumina-on-nickel catalyst, to a method of obtaining same and to the use thereof. More specifically, the inventive catalyst is prepared by means of an impregnation process using a support comprising a special alumina having a specific X-ray diffraction pattern, a porous structure and a determined acidity. The inventive catalyst can be used in reactions involving the hydrogenation of diolefins in hydrocarbon streams.
