A process for obtaining a light paraffin isomerization catalyst, comprising the steps of treating a support comprising a zeolite with a chelating agent, calcination, deposition of a metal or a mixture of metals of group VIII on the support, and calcination; the catalyst obtainable by said process and an isomerization process for C4 to C9 hydrocarbons involving the use of said catalyst.
